Smart Thermostats — More Than a Wi-Fi App

A professionally installed and correctly configured smart thermostat reduces heating and cooling energy consumption by 10–20% — typically paying back the device cost within the first heating season. But the device is only half the story: incorrect heat pump wiring, wrong balance point settings, or a C-wire installed incorrectly can damage expensive HVAC control boards.

Thermostats We Install & Configure

Lennox iComfort S30 / E30

For Lennox communicating systems

Two-way system communication enables full equipment intelligence, fault monitoring, and performance data. Required for Lennox extended warranty on communicating equipment.

Ecobee SmartThermostat with Voice Control

Most versatile for non-communicating systems

Room sensors, multi-stage heat pump support, demand response, and an excellent app.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen)

For conventional & simple heat pump systems

Learning capability and strong Google Home integration.

Honeywell Home T9 / T10 Pro

For complex multi-stage systems

Strong for heat pumps and dual-fuel configurations. Room sensor support.

HVAC Zoning — Stop Heating Rooms You're Not In

HVAC zoning uses motorized dampers in your ductwork and multiple thermostats to divide your home into independently controlled comfort zones. Typical energy savings: 15–25%. We install both conventional bypass-damper zoning and the Lennox iHarmony communicating system — the most sophisticated residential zoning available, which modulates furnace and AC capacity to match the active zone load rather than routing excess air through a bypass.

Lennox communicating variable-capacity systems (SLP99V furnace, XC25 AC, XP25 heat pump) require the Lennox iComfort thermostat to access full system features. A generic thermostat treats these as single-stage equipment and loses most of the advanced capabilities. Our Lennox Technical Rep background means we configure iComfort systems correctly.

Our Process

1

System assessment

We check your existing thermostat wiring, system type (single-stage, multi-stage, heat pump, communicating), and confirm C-wire availability.

2

Thermostat selection

We recommend the right thermostat for your specific equipment — not just the most popular option.

3

Professional installation

Correct wiring including C-wire if needed, heat pump O/B terminal configuration, and balance point programming for dual-fuel systems.

4

Setup & commissioning

Wi-Fi connection, scheduling setup, and a full system test in all operating modes.

Pricing & Financing

Smart thermostat installation (supply and install): $200–$450 depending on model and wiring. Lennox iComfort S30 with installation: $450–$650. HVAC zoning (2 zones): $1,800–$4,000 installed.

Why Choose Malek

Expert Smart HVAC Service You Can Trust

iComfort Specialists

Lennox communicating system setup requires manufacturer knowledge. Our Lennox Technical Rep background means we do it correctly.

Heat Pump Configuration

Incorrect heat pump thermostat wiring causes equipment damage. We verify O/B terminal, staging, and auxiliary heat configuration every time.

C-Wire Expertise

Homes without a C-wire get a proper solution — adapter or new wire — not a power-stealing workaround that interferes with system controls.

Zoning Design

We design your zoning system to manage static pressure correctly — not just install dampers and hope for the best.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which smart thermostat is best for a Lennox communicating system?

The Lennox iComfort S30 or E30 — full stop. Lennox communicating variable-capacity systems require the iComfort thermostat to access bidirectional communication, fault monitoring, variable-capacity coordination, and full warranty compliance.

Does my system need a C-wire for a smart thermostat?

Most smart thermostats require a continuous-power C-wire. Many GTA homes with older furnaces don't have one at the thermostat location. We add a C-wire adapter or run new wire as part of installation — the right way.

How much does HVAC zoning cost?

A two-zone system in an existing home: $1,800–$4,000. Lennox iHarmony communicating zoning for a Lennox variable-capacity setup: $3,000–$6,500+. We provide a specific quote after assessing your ductwork.

Can a smart thermostat damage my heat pump?

Yes — incorrect wiring of the O/B (reversing valve) terminal causes the heat pump to run in the wrong mode. Incorrect auxiliary heat configuration leads to inefficiency or equipment damage. Professional installation by someone with heat pump knowledge is strongly recommended.
